A spooky-tree-hug this Halloween morning. Up in the snow-dotted tree tops this arm waving tree-conjurer reminded me of the Sorcerer's Apprentice (Fantasia). While down below, in the core of this half dead-half alive tree-giant, I was greeted by a ghoulish tree-monster. His big bark-hole eyes staring at me! And finally, Felix the friendly tree-ghost holding his head. I think he can't quite believe it's Halloween already. Message: Keep celebrating. Have fun. Life is good. Peace Some special pictures from my garden this morning. After last night's heavy frost.

My first snowy tree-hug of the fall. It is hunting season so the bright vests will be on for a couple of months. Please know that we are very mindful of the hazards in the woods. I also feel like the tree-spirits are watching out for us. When we got back on the road today the first car that passed us had the license plate TREECARE. I am enjoying seeing the 'bodies' of the trees again. They looked especially beautiful today in stark contrast to the snowy sky. This tree-friend revealed her elegant and graceful contours. Stretching her mighty tree-arm up to the sky. Lightning like tree-fingers spreading out across the heavens. And a tree-deer in retreat high above the hunters. Message: As best you can embrace the changes of time. Be mindful and marvel at the beauty and strengths that are revealed. Know you are watched over and protected. Peace.
A rainy morning tree-hug. If you're looking for something to lift your spirits put on some layers of warm clothes and step out for a walk in the rain with your umbrella. It is a beautiful meditation listening to the rain falling and witnessing all the ways the rain drops touch the earth. Today I saw a fearless tree-climber reaching for the top. Down below a happy tree-family heading out for a walk. And a beautifully sculpted tree-man profile gazing out on his rain soaked woods. Message: There are simple ways to step out of your comfort zone. See with new eyes. Feel with the forgotten heart of an innocent child. Be cleansed. Peace
An afternoon tree-hug today. The Kokopelli-tree-figure is what caught my eye as we were trekking through the woods. A magical tree-musician playing his tree-flute to the heavens. This section of the woods has a lot of large rocks and ledges. Many with trees growing out of them like this one. That doesn't seem to be stopping this tree-conductor from playing his music high above the ground. And down below this smiling bark-gal in her fashionable silver-gray flowing outfit is obviously enjoying the music. Message: Take time to be present in nature. It is the simplest of healing. Wonderful friends reside there if you slow down to meet them. Peace.
A thrilling tree-hug this morning. And did I enjoy it! The view looking up from my sturdy tree-arm-perch. It was like getting a ride on a friendly tree-llama. An intricately patterned tree-angel caught my attention but was shy revealing her face to me. While up higher this deeply textured tree-overseer was not being shy about his presence in the woods. Message: You are an intricate being in an intricate world. Take a step out of your comfort zone. Welcome a new perspective. Extras: A yellow poplar leaf. This was a tree we saw earlier in the walk. The mushrooms are a sign that the tree is not healthy. This amazing display of fungi on the tree was beautiful and a little sad. The dying and dead trees provide other living things, even trees in its own family, nutrients and opportunities for growth. The forest truly teaches important lessons.
I enjoyed another special off the ground tree-hug this morning. How could I resist this open armed invitation for a group hug? And the opportunity to meet some beautifully textured new tree-friends? Like this curious swirl-nosed tree-being giving me the side eye. And this very attractive tree-couple posing for their Autumn portrait. Then the tree-neighbor in the background making sure I noticed his pinstripe bark-suit. Message: Our tree-friends want us to meet them. To have fun with them. To delight in their genius and beauty. To respect their role in our existence. To love them. Peace.
Oh what a fun tree-hug! It was nice finding a tree with a low branch to climb up on for the hug. Just the right height for me. I was welcomed by some special tree-bark-beings. A tree-wizard holding his wand over a dried-leaf-bouquet. Notice the dancing tree-neighbor wanting to be in the picture too. A powerful tree wise-woman. Her many life struggles etched deeply on her face. And a very curious looking barky trunk-being. I feel he has many a story to tell of life on his hilltop. Message: As best you can balance your struggles with simple fun. Make new friends. There is magic in life. And messages in the trees. Peace.
It's so much easier to see the trees now in the woods. And a lot easier to walk with less undergrowth. I was first drawn to this tree by its interesting bark and bumps. But then I became curious about the lichen which I see growing on a lot of tree. I did some research later and learned that lichens are a 'complex life form' made up of a fungus and an alga(e). They are not parasitic and do not harm the tree. Among other things, they absorb pollutants from the atmosphere and can indicate pollution levels. Isn't that interesting! This bumpy barked tree-being thought I was rather curious looking too! Message: Be open and curious. Learn and grow. Peace.
A special tree-rehug this morning. I wanted to see how the leaves were changing on one of my favorite trees. It was well worth the trek back into the woods. A beautiful beech tree-maiden, arms open welcoming the golden transformation above her. Her delicate tree-fingers stretched wide to fully receive the light. A solid beech-family at home on the hillside. Message: Be open and receive the golden light of life. Love one another. Peace.
This morning's tree-hug. How different the woods look and feel. Beautiful in a different way. This freedom loving tree-gal dances happily in the tree-tops.. While the tree-elders join again in council after the busy leafed-time.. There is something very comforting in tree-patience and balance. Peace.
A lovely warm afternoon tree-hug today. I believe this new tree-friend is a chestnut oak. Chestnut oaks are identified by their 'massively-ridged dark gray-brown bark' and that they grow on ridges, like this one. Its bark is the thickest of any eastern North American oak! Its leaves starting their color change journey. Creating a beautiful background to the tree-snake-limbs twisting and turning gracefully high above the ground. A young birch looking over with awe at its formidable tree-neighbor. Tree message: Stand in your strength, even on the edge. Trust your direction and flow. You are an inspiration.
A joyful tree-hug this morning after much meandering and exploring in the woods. With less undergrowth and leaves overhead the trees appear even taller. Tree-giants watching over their wood-land. This tree-friend's straight and towering trunks convey a feeling of purpose and unity. Supporting one another and helping maintain just the right balance. As always, I am intrigued by the intricate bark patterns. They beckon me to learn their timeless language. Tree-Message: Stand tall. Be aware of what is around you. Find balance with others. Keep learning.
A beautiful fall tree-hug this morning. The view looking to the top of this tree-friend was breathtaking. When I think about the time this magnificent tree has been growing it boggles my mind. I am in awe not only of its beauty and sheer size, but the intricacy of its life functions. Its importance in my very existence humbles me. So complex and yet so simple. A solitary red oak leaf called out for my attention. Our tree-friends show us every day, when we take the time to be present with them, how blessed we are by the elements. Message: Love the trees. Protect nature as best you can. A different tree with another message. Even when the tree no longer lives, as we knew it, it continues to provide sustenance.
This morning's tree-hug was all about roots. These amazing revealed roots had many a story to tell. They were woven and fused together in unexpected ways. Young and old roots working together to bring and store nourishment for the tree. Agents of stability and balance. Supporting the Standing One in innumerable ways. Tree-message: As best you can, know your roots. Like great seen and unseen hands, they assist you in your life journey. Stand steady with their nourishment and support.
A golden tree-hug this morning. As more leaves fall the 'bare bones' of the trees are revealed. Even though a part of me is sad when the leaves fall, I appreciate seeing what has been hidden from view. Our tree-friends show us how to gracefully flow with the seasons. They show us beauty is on many levels. Message: Keep discovering yourself. Travel through the seasons with tree-grace and beauty.
Tree-hug before the rain. I love meeting these wonderfully expressive tree-dancers. Its amazing how the bark adapts to all the twists and turns of the dance. In the forest, no tree stands alone. And in this neighborhood there's definitely a dancing vibe. My tree-dancer-friend is even taking a bow. Message: Live fully. Don't be afraid to dance to your own music. It's never too late. Be proud of your unique self. You are part of a joyous dance of spirits.
I dedicated this group tree-hug to those unable to hug a tree right now. And especially those in need of a healing hug. May the healing energy touch you in just the right way. Stand within the tree-heart of strength, patience and stillness. Ever one with the energy of light. Tree-message: Turn towards the light and the shadows will fall behind you. You are loved. Peace, Harmony & Healing
A refreshing tree-hug this morning. Complete with a shower of sparkling raindrops set off by an energetic squirrel. Tree-ladies celebrating the return of the sun and clear blue sky. The tree-fellows joyful too. Welcoming the lighter open energy coming into the woods. And this happy tree-being waving a friendly hello to all of you! Message: Hold steady. We are in the midst of a powerful transition. Be wise. Love the trees. Love the earth. Peace.
A delightfully wet tree-hug today. Seeing the rain trailing down the bark of this tree-friend was beautiful. Its varied textures highlighted by the glistening water. I wonder, when did I stop enjoying being out in the rain? When did I stop being witness to the miracle of rain showering the trees? Tree-message: Feel a joy you may not have felt since you were a child. Visit a tree in the rain. Be radical.
First rainy morning tree-hug in a while. I felt relieved for the trees. It has been a very dry year. Drought makes the trees more vulnerable to disease. This tree's lower limb was dead. I saw a pensive tree-bear. Another calling out into the wild. Bark hanging off the dead limb. Revealing a petroglyph of a running wood-spirit man. Tree-pondering: The cycles of life, death and rebirth.
A powerful healing tree-hug this morning. Spiraling tree-energy. Overcoming adversity and challenge. Ever reaching toward the light. For now, in a golden transition time. Earlier, at the house, a beautiful monarch butterfly warming in the sunlight. Message of the day: Go with the flow of life's transitions. There are many. Reach for the light, absorb the light, be transformed and healed by the light. Peace.
An entwined tree-hug this morning. Birch and oak tree-friends find each other and embrace. It looks like tree-love. Trees are amazing! The message: Keep on truckin'. Follow your path. Love who you love. Keep moving towards the light. Peace.
A graceful tree-hug this morning. This towering tree-angel stands with the light. Sharing that light with all that witness her presence.. A glowing wash of colors above her head. Spirit-faces on the bark emerged from the dance of the light. leaves and gentle breeze. If you squint at this picture you may see a spiritual master appear. And finally, dainty late blooming flowers nestled at the tree-angel's feet. Her message: Appreciate the simple things in life. Stay grounded and in the moment.
Today's inspiring tree-hug. Gazing upward I feel in awe of the great Standing One. I think, as a child I must have felt something like this. A graceful tree-lady dancing on top of the world A thoughtful tree-bear gazing out at the changes in his woods. And I, as a standing one, looking down and imagining a tree covered mountaintop in the moss. Dream, and be free.
A unique tree-hug this morning. Where the seed lands is where the tree grows. Trees have amazing determination to survive. This lovely birch spread its roots out along a rock outcrop. Then, one trunk up. One trunk down. Then out and up. Truly amazing. The view from underneath. My imagination sees a mountain path. A grazing tree-unicorn. A prayerful bark-being. Please help keep our trees, our air, water and land safe and healthy. It is my prayer too! The feel of the raised tree-bark-lines reminds me of Braille. Perhaps this cubist-tree-being will help me read it next time. And he says now ...... Remember, Peace .......
