This morning I visited a black cherry tree I haven't seen in quite a while. I was glad to see it looked healthy. It's softly flowing trunk-lines and 'burnt corn flakes' bark are unique in these woods. Beautiful to behold from any direction. This special tree holds the space around it with grace and serenity. On the way back I spotted a common earthball, aka pigskin poison puffball. How can we not be in awe of nature and her multitude of creations! 💚 Peace

I met an affectionate woodland tree-couple off the trail this morning. Message: Keep the love alive. 💚 Peace
I met an unusual tree-friend in the woods this morning. The same tree had two different barks. There was a cute tree-couple. And a misty smiling ghost-web was hanging out. Bonus picture to help you keep cool in the full summer heat. Be safe. 💚 Peace
I visited some trees on the edge of our property this afternoon. A pignut hickory with beautifully textured bark. And another hickory with a curious tree-face. Make the time to step outside and visit nature. Once you start looking you'll become part of the magic. 💚 Peace
Closer to home this giant tree-friend made sure I stopped by to visit this morning. It's one of the oldest trees in these woods. I hope in the future there will be more old trees in our woods, not less. They are powerful energies we all benefit from in countless ways. 💚 Peace
Being in the presence of this monumental 500 year old oak tree in Bedford, NY took my breath away. I wasn't dressed to venture any closer but it was enough to feel its magnificent energy. I'm so glad this tree is being protected. 💚 Peace
I was back in the woods this morning and went on a trail I haven't been on since the winter. It's wonderful having the opportunity to visit the trees in all the seasons At first this bark looked like shagbark hickory but it was a maple. My guess is red maple which have layers of long vertical strips. It was a handsome tree. I noticed something light colored in a hollow just above my head. It was magical seeing the fins of this mushroom glow as the light passed through. And I learned something, too. Oyster mushroom (which this might be) is a carnivorous fungus! It preys on roundworms. Nature truly is full of magic, mystery and marvel. How blessed we are to witness it. 💚 Peace
This morning we walked on the road at the Cary Institute. It is just a few miles from our house. This lovely tree quickly got my attention. I think it is a basswood. The meadows are beautiful and filled with many different wildflowers. Step into nature. Her bountiful gifts await your presence and appreciation. And, of course, always be mindful of the gifts that sting and bite and itch. 💚 Peace
This morning's tree-hug in the woods. Quite a few interesting faces and examples of tree-healing. Plus another mushroom. 💚 Peace It's concentric circular cracks are caused by 'target canker', a fungus. In the Northeast the red maple is the only tree that develops this distinctive marking. Interestingly each circular crack marks a year of the tree having the disease. The tree is not killed by this fungus, though the cracks in the bark can make it vulnerable to other problems. I think this is a Yellow American Blusher.
A magical tree-hug in the woods this morning. The view looking up was a masterful nature-painting of color, light and line. A happy pointy headed rock-being rested on the shaded side. Nearby, what looked like a mummy growing on a Sugar Maple is Northern tooth fungus. Sadly it is parasitic and not good for the tree. Nature teaches us many lesson. 💚 Peace
Some pictures from this morning. A view of the Hudson River beside an eastern white pine (my tree-hug). The standing dead trees were on the water's edge. A surrealistic view by the dock. A river estuary. Where a great blue heron was hunting. And little Ulysses looking out from his cat-cave. 💚 Peace
An unusual sight this morning. I'm not absolutely sure, but it looks like a tree seed took root in this tree hollow and grew up through the hollow. It grew up pretty high but when I looked more closely I didn't see any leaves on the younger tree. It needed more room to expand. Being dispersed by wind, water and animals tree seeds don't always land in an ideal place. Which is why trees produce millions of seeds. On the drive home I saw a tall thin great blue heron standing on the side of the road. When it saw the car coming it flew onto a tree stump in the swamp. Message: Expand your options for growth as best you can. Find what works best for you to hold your truth. Step into the moment. 💚 Peace
It was a beautiful morning for a walk in the woods. I came upon this most unusual tree - which you may remember from last year. A very loveable trunk-being looked at me curiously. While another gave me a more grumpy side-eye look. The fungus continue to emerge and amaze. The common name for this bumpy fellow is old-man-of the-woods. And there was a beautiful pink coral fungus, similar to the white one I saw last week. Nearby a weary birch-creature rested. I hope you enjoy the coming weekend and experience some nature-magic. 💚 Peace
A beautiful twin-tree hug this morning in the woods. Just like us, no two trees are alike. Each trees life story told through its splits, curves, swerves, wrinkles, textures and more. Trees show us what worked for them and what didn't. They're not shy about showing us who they are. Appreciate the trees and appreciate yourself. 💚 Nearby a bright orange fungus. Also not shy about making a statement. And a sea of micro-mushrooms on a generous tree-stump. Step out into nature. Hug the trees. Make new friends. They're waiting for us to join the Earth. 💚 Peace
A reach-for-the-sky tree-hug this morning. There was a gentle breeze singing through the leaves. Trees have intelligence. They adjust and move their energy to where it is needed the most. A path of growth and transformation. And embraced in a hollow grandmother bark-being prayed for peace, harmony and healing.
A fine old-oak tree-hug this morning. With an interesting abstract rock-sculpture in his front-yard. It's nice to know rock-beings can have cute faces. A big-eyed hanger kind of stuck in place looked cute too but in a grump way. And a mysterious disc might have been flying through the woods. Stillness and movement are part of the whole. Relax and appreciate the journey. 💚 Peace
An interesting hickory tree-hug this morning. It's getting very buggy outside, even in the yard. I have been wearing a head net and using doTerra TerraShield insect spray. I remain alert to bees, poison ivy and bears. Always check for ticks, too. It's worth it to commune with these amazing keepers of the land. 💚 Peace
A woodland tree-hug off the trail this morning. A fallen limb with curious eyes rested against the trunk . Everything has a place in the scheme of things. The mushrooms continue to display their unique beauty. Celebrate being you wherever you may be. 💚 Peace
A comforting sugar-maple hug in the yard this afternoon. I found a loving tree-couple looking down with compassion. Peace is closer than we think. Waiting for us to remember. 💚 Peace
A happy smiling tree-hug yesterday morning. It felt good to get back to the woods and with such beautiful weather. A quite handsome tree-profile. A great laughing tree-character on the left-trunk. And a beautiful velvety-looking fungus called me back to take its picture. I believe it's a shiny cinnamon polypore. Nature is magical. Enjoy the light and the love. 💚Peace
I am reading Meditations of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Last night I read '...the trees are imperfect men, and seem to bemoan their imprisonment, rooted in the ground...'. I thought of it this morning when I came upon these roots traveling down the trail. It was hard to tell which tree or trees the roots were from but I was drawn to this magnificent chestnut oak. A powerful and unique presence standing proud along the rocky trail. Its roots, seen and unseen, told their own story of tree-movement and freedom. 💚 Peace
Another yard tree-hug today. I counted 6 more Peace trees (Eastern White Pine) on the property. It feels good getting to know them as tree-beings. Yard-trees have features you don't see in woodland-trees. Like smooth cut limb-wounds. They have stories of living closer to people. A smiling eye-patched pirate dressed in a layered bark-cloak told me they can still be a bit wild. And there was a pleasant tree-mandala meditation-moment. Nearby a more secluded white pine peeked through the shrubs. I never had noticed him before. Lately I've been thinking the trees are the actual land-owners and we are their guests. 💚 Peace
