Tree-hug on September 21

Can you imagine the thrill of discovering a tree that you never knew existed?  I'd like to introduce you to the Hornbeam. It's got the same beautiful smooth bark as a beech, but is in the birch family. 

This hornbeam-bodybuilder is looking back over his shoulder, making sure I check out his muscular physique.

The ultra-smooth bark of this lovely arms-raised tree-ballerina is a perfect canvas for the leaves to paint their shadow pictures.
